Biography

Christopher Herbert (Ph.D. Yale University) is een Victorianist gespecialiseerd in de roman en in culturele en intellectuele geschiedenis. Hij is de auteur van Trollope and Comic Pleasure (Chicago, 1987), Culture and Anomie: Ethnographic Imagination in the Nineteenth Century (Chicago, 1991), Victorian Relativity: Radical Thought and Scientific Discovery (Chicago, 2001) , and War of No Pity: The Indian Mutiny and Victorian Trauma (Princeton, 2007), evenals artikelen over Dickens, George Eliot, Trollope, Henry Mayhew, Bram Stoker, Virginia Woolf, en verschillende onderwerpen van het negentiende-eeuwse wetenschappelijke en sociale denken. Zijn meest recente boek is Evangelical Gothic: The English Novel and the Religious War on Virtue from Wesley to ” Dracula.”Hij heeft een NEH en twee ACLS Fellowships en twee Wcas Outstanding Teaching Awards ontvangen.
