Homework’s not the most fun thing in the world to do, am I right? Most students throughout all levels of schooling would probably agree that it’s more fun to do things you like such as playing video games, hanging with your friends, playing your favorite instrument or sport, whatever it is you like to do. And, most of us get it, school is important. It’s preparing us for future jobs and making us well rounded people. But knowing that still doesn’t make doing homework the most enjoyable thing in the world. If you fall in this category of finding it hard to find a reason to do your homework, read on (and bear with me here).
Here’s what you should do. Strive for God first, above all else before your girlfriend or boyfriend, before school, before your friends, before even your family. It seems kind of wrong doesn’t it? Putting things before your friends, school, and family? But it’s right! Here’s how.
You should be striving to glorify God in your daily actions. These daily actions include eating meals over a conversation with your family, going to school, talking with your friends, going to a sports or music practice, watching TV, and even doing your homework when you get home. During all of these things, strive to honor God. And not just in your words and actions, but in your thoughts too! Give all things to Him who made us and breathed sacred life into us.
Practically how can you do this? Well, first of all always avoid sin. Don’t do things you know are wrong based on the Ten Commandments, the beatitudes, and what those who are important to you have advised you not to do (parents, other relatives, good friends, etc…). Secondly, when making a decision, decide the thing you think will make God the happiest. And if you make God happy, He will definitely return the favor maybe not right away, but eventually.
So, next time you would rather be doing anything but your homework, but you know you need to do it cuz it’s due soon, keep in mind that you’re doing it to glorify God!
