Peer Pressure will start to hit you more and more when you walk into high school. As if the stress isn’t high enough because you are told you need to get good grades, now it gets even harder.I’m not trying to scare you, but i’m telling you now because i care. I have been pressured to do things in high school i said i would never do and that has led me to poor decisions.
Peer pressure does’nt only mean “drug and alcohol” related. A lot of the time, peer pressure relates to appearance, priorities, effort, and lifestyle. Peer pressure, in some type or form is responsible for decisions leading to bad activities. 74% of high school students have been peer pressured and have tried alcohol. I am in that majority. 30% of teens have been offered drugs while in high school. I was in that majority. More than 1/3 of high school students are pressured into having sex, 3.1 million teens smoke in the US, 9.5% of high school students have tried cocaine. The average teen takes their first sip of alcohol at the age of 12.5 (6th grade), 25% of people age 17-18 smoke tobacco. Nearly 2/3 of all teenagers who drink end up buying their own alcohol. Junior and Senior high school students drink 35% of all wine coolers sold in the US. Caving into peer pressure and trying anyone of these things mentioned can turn into an addiction and lead you down the wrong path.
We tend to forget positive peer pressure always exists. Positive peer pressure is when the overall change is for the better. The best way to create positive peer pressure is to be honest, avoid alcohol and drugs, not smoke, be nice and respectful, work hard, and exercise together. I highly recommend to find a friend with similar interests while in high school because having that friend makes it so much easier to get through the 4 years.
Even though you may try something that you know is bad for you and you do it anyway, it does not mean you are a bad person. When we are in reality, sometimes we forget how easy it is to cave. We think we can put our guard down but sometimes that ‘what if” or “whats it like’ takes over. No one can stop you. Remeber your life and the life of those around you may be at stake. Never drink and get high and drive. Be smart and use your head. Understand there will be consequences to all your actions.
If you feel like you’re ever in a trap in high school of peer pressure or addictions, Christ is always with you there to help and hold your hand down the right path. Romans 6:23 says ” For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Many of you will make mistakes and choices that could have bad consequences just remember God is always there to relieve the stress of life for you. When we make bad decisons we start to spiritually die and distance oursleves from our heavenly Father, so because of our actions we earn the wage of sin-death. Because of God’s grace there is always a but. But I give you eternal life in heaven with Me all you have to do is come to Me. No matter how insecure you feel, no matter how lost you are, God is the free and undeserved gift we receive, even after we make bad decisions and abandon Him.
“For I am with you until the end of time” – God
