Have you been paying attention to the news lately? Like to all the information about the COVID scares and all the shootings that seem to keep happening? It all makes me think about what I would do if I found myself in a life or death situation, and whether or not I’m ready to die.
Do you ever think about death? If you were to die tomorrow, would you be ready? I know this is a rather grim subject to think about, but the reality of life is that we are all going to die someday, and for some of us it might be tomorrow or it might be in 60 years. We all know we’re going to die at some point, but we just don’t know when.
As I’m writing this, I also can’t help but think of the oh-so-popular saying you only live once (#YOLO). There’s something missing though, to that statement. It’s based on the thought that this life is the only thing we have and that we’d better have all the fun we can before we die, or we will have missed out. But, it overlooks the fact that sometimes, whether you only live once or not, trying new things is not a good idea. I think you know what I mean. J Instead of making YOLO our motto for life though, our motivation should be that we only get one chance at eternal life.
Take a moment to think about what you would have done differently today if you knew that you weren’t going to wake up tomorrow. Would you have loved more selflessly? Would you have spent more time with your family instead of on your phone? Would you have given God some time in prayer?
In the end when we die, the only things that are going to matter are whether or not we followed the Ten Commandments and how we loved along the way. Are you ready to meet God and give Him an account of your life? Maybe it’s time to get there. Maybe it’s time to live your life like you’ve been made for eternity….like death is only the beginning of forever either in Hell or in Heaven. Maybe it’s time to love heroically. I don’t know about you, but I’m going to live my life with the goal of getting to Heaven.
