Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about who or what I place my identity in. I know for a fact that it is easy to place our identity in things of this world, such as our friends, our schoolwork, or our significant others. It’s easy to see ourselves as the smart girl or the athletic boy but the sad thing is, all of these things are passing. The only person in our life that is not passing, that will be with us forever is God. So ultimately what we need to be striving for is finding our identity in being a child of God.
So what I noticed myself doing was putting my identity in what friends I had. I was more concerned about everyone knowing I was friends with these girls or that I had this girl as my best friend. What I learned is that I was never fulfilled by these friendship and these friends were always failing me. It was not because they weren’t good friends it was just that nothing on this earth could ever fulfill me. Only God can do that!
Putting your identity totally in Jesus Christ and being a child of God is hard but not impossible. I know this because I’m struggling and trying to do it now. Things of this world and the devil are very loud which makes it hard to ignore at times. The best advice I can give in putting your identity in Christ is to pray, pray, and pray some more. Pray that God will help you in doing this. If you place your identity in being a child of God you will be fulfilled and radiant with God’s love to all around you!
