Unfortunately, we live in a culture where happiness is found by climbing a ladder that goes nowhere. We’re constantly searching for it by trying to acquire more; more likes on Instagram, more friends, more love. And we think that if we can just reach that limit, we’ll finally be happy. I’m definitely guilty of this as I look to find my fulfillment in all the things and people surrounding me. I obsessively check my recently posted picture to check how many likes I have because I find my worth in my popularity. I stress myself too much over my schoolwork because I find my worth in my accomplishments. I want everyone to love me because I find my worth in my friendships.
Enough doesn’t exist in our vocabulary. We can never be pretty enough, smart enough, or popular enough. But what if we didn’t have to stop at just enough? What if we were bubbling over with the abundance of joy that’s meant for us? In the last year, these are the questions that my best friend asked me as she continued to show me the true love Jesus has for me.
I can’t say I have this whole thing down, but I’d love to share with you what I do know:
- As humans, we desire happiness. Duh. Who wants to be unhappy?
- When we search for happiness in the things of this world, we may find temporary happiness, but that quickly fades.
- We tend to let these things reflect who we are. There is only one thing that can define you and it is that you are a child of Jesus!
I can’t promise you that you’ll all of a sudden be happy tomorrow if you say a little prayer tonight, but if you take the time to get to know Him, I can promise that you’ll see the amazing love He has for you. You are worth so much more than the limits you’re placing on yourself right now, so I encourage you to accept the limitless love Jesus has for you. You won’t be disappointed.
