Doesn’t that word just make you feel uncomfortable? But here is the deal…we have nothing to truly fear. There is no doubt that there are some pretty scary things in this world. War, crime, sickness, injury, failure and the list goes on and on. But there is one other thing that people often fear that they are not even aware of: success.
There may be several reasons to fear success. Now I do want to point out that we should strive to be successful in endeavors that bring honor and glory to God. We should never strive for success for purely personal gain. One reason to fear success may be that if we succeed, we are basically set up to fail. However, we should never let failure enter our mind. Those thoughts are not from God. We should continually strive to succeed in all of the situations in life that God puts us in.
But here is the main point that I want to focus on. We sometimes fear success because we don’t want to offend others. Now I am not saying that we need to be arrogant and proud. We need to be extremely humble. Any success that we have should be given back to God. To drive this point home, I want to refer a unique and interesting poem. The words are powerful, so please read it closely!
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Basically…let you light shine so others will feel empowered to let their light shine to! And we all know that this light is from God…that’s the cool thing about it.
